For the worldly or curious individual, there are courses in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) that teach the foundations and principles of TCM.  Some of the healing therapeutics that are offered in these Oriental medicine programs includes acupuncture, Tuina, Chinese herbology, Qigong, Tai Chi, and shiatsu.

To gain a solid foundation, it is important that prospective students explore the many courses in traditional Chinese medicine available in the United States and in Canada.  Depending on which path of study you’d like to pursue, you will need to know what prerequisites may be necessary for enrollment.  Furthermore, examining curricula is equally important, as no two schools are identical.

Courses in Herbology

“These programs may take up to two years to complete, and often require prerequisite education from an accredited school or university.”

The unique aspect of courses in herbology is that while students may enroll at a physical campus, there is a number of growing home study courses that are available to the homebound student or working adult learner.

Though curricula and program length may vary in holistic health schools, common studies included in courses in herbology are anatomy, physiology, nutrition, health and herbs; herbal properties, herbal preparations, herb identification, herbal cultivation, and cooking with herbs, among others.
