The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or the FAFSA, is one of the most misunderstood and important forms you’ll ever file when it comes to paying for college. For a step-by-step guide, you can visit the FAFSAOnline Website.
Here are the top 5 tips to keep in mind when completing this important form:
#5: Do your IRS 1040 first.
Even if you don’t plan on filing your IRS 1040 on paper, I strongly recommend you complete a 1040 BEFORE you start your FAFSA. Approximately 80% of the FAFSA is based on IRS tax data, and by completing the 1040 first, you’ll save yourself a LOT of time. Even if you don’t have your W-2 and 1099 forms from your employers, you can still estimate using your last pay stub(s) from 2006.

Continuing education is sought after by a number of people. Generally speaking, continuing education programs can be divided into two classes. The first is general adult education, including courses taught beyond regular postsecondary education like an undergraduate degree. Adult education can include subjects like English as a Second Language, literacy, vocational training, GED preparation, and other forms of non-traditional education. Continuing education programs in this category may or may not be taught at an accredited higher education institution; some may be taught at vocational schools or local community centers, while others may be at an accredited community college.

A mother was at home, and there was a knock at the door. She
opened the door and was surprised to see a person standing
there with a bouquet of flowers. It wasn’t a holiday,
birthday, or anniversary. The flowers were a total surprise!
They turned a rather ordinary day into an exceptional one to
be remembered for weeks to come.
Little remembrances are cherished. And, the person who sends
them is not forgotten. We all like to be remembered in
unusual and caring ways. The teachers and staffs of high
schools aren’t any different and yet, it does not happen
very often for them. Kind words are good, but a thoughtful
note is better, and a small gift
is best.

Ask what students consider in selecting a college and their research shows: location; majors; size of the student body; diversity; academic rigor; and of course name recognition. Ask parents what is foremost on their minds and it is the cost of the college.
With over 15.9 million students enrolled in college from 25,000 high schools, many different financial situations and needs exist. For families fearful of the high cost of a college there is good news and bad news. The bad news is that money is not just there for the taking and there is a formula and other factors that determines who qualifies for need based financial aid; the good news is that there are many colleges that meet a family’s determined financial need on a funds-available basis through grants, loans, and/or work opportunities.
