When the weather is nice, the kids (and Mom) are itching to get outside and play. I personally like the playing to learn approach. Did you know there’s an outdoor world of math and reading fun that awaits you, and all you need is sidewalk chalk, dice, and your imaginations? Anything we can do inside on paper can be done outside on the driveway or sidewalk, as long as we don’t care if it eventually gets “erased” by rain or sprinklers. Not only do the kids and I get to exercise our brains but we also get to exercise our bodies. I get to stretch my hamstrings and quads as I bend over to draw game boards or numbers, and the kids get to hop, skip, and jump around. Here are a few favorite sidewalk games I’d like to share. You can adapt any of them to the abilities of your children, and multiple ages can play together.

Elementary school teachers invest a lot of effort into teaching students about the concept of time. Think of all there is to learn about time - seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and years. Let’s not forget about the concept of past, present and future, as well as before and after.
Teaching children about the concept of time enables them to be more responsible and independent. For example, with knowledge of time, children grasp what is meant when mom is yelling “be ready in 10 minutes!” It also helps them understand how much time must be set aside daily to tackle homework.

Shrek is the colorful main character in the Shrek movies, and a Shrek party makes for a wonderful afternoon for a boy or a girl. Now that Shrek has come out with his third movie, Shrek the Third, Shrek parties are more popular than ever!
A Shrek party is great for any child who loves the Shrek movies. Pre-made invitations may be purchased at any dollar, discount or party outlets supply store. If the party is being thrown on a budget make invitations at home using a mossy green cardstock and attaching Shrek stickers to one side. Write or print the party information on the other side and the guests will be excited to attend the Shrek party.

Dealing with a child that is picky about what they eat has been a common problem for many families. It can be difficult and even annoying trying to figure out what to cook when you have a picky eater in your home. However, here are some tips on dealing with a picky eater kid that can help make this problem easier to live with. The most common worry among parents is that their child will starve if they don’t eat enough. Therefore, the most common mistake is trying to force the child to eat. When it’s time to get your kids to bed, do you find it is always a chore or a battle of wills? It doesn’t have to be that way, anymore. The choice is yours. And the best news is, creativity isn’t needed, only common sense and a desire for your child to get a good night’s sleep.
Now, you can say “Good night.” and mean it. As parents, we have to wear many hats. We’re super heroes, doctors, playmates, confidants and in this case, the sand man. But when it’s time to put your kids down for the night, the key is to make them willing participants.
