Making Your Bridal Shower A Hit!
Every woman goes through them on a regular basis, either as a guest, host, or the main attraction. Everyone gets together, plays a few games, the bride open her gifts and then everyone eats. It’s predicable and the same every time, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Make your next bridal shower fun and exciting for everyone. Ready for some new bridal shower food and game ideas?
There are some decisions that need to be made before the invitations are sent out. Where will the shower be? When will it be? Will there be a theme to the shower that guests need to prepare for? Is there a particular dress code that your guests will need to be aware of? Rushing into the invitations without much planning beforehand leads the way to a predictable bridal shower.
To spice up the venue, consider where you can host the bridal shower, other than your living room or the local church basement. Your home may be free, but so is a park, where you can spread out a big picnic in a shaded area. If you don’t mind spending a bit of money on your location, consider a local tea house, provided your guest list isn’t too big. If your guests are on the younger side, you may want to have your shower in the evening at a pub or restaurant. Many businesses will be happy to provide appetizers for such occasions at a set price, and guests can cover the cost of their own drinks. Is there somewhere else that you think would be a great place to host the shower? Check it out! One huge benefit of hosting the shower away from home is that you don’t have to do any cleaning! If you do decide to have the bridal shower at your home, make it feel like somewhere else. You and your fellow hostesses can dress up as fancy waiters and pretend that you’re at a posh restaurant. Or you can decorate your living room to make it look like a tropical island getaway.
Many showers take place on Saturday or Sunday afternoons, in the middle of the weekend, and some of your guests may be counting the minutes until they can get out of there to enjoy what is left of their day. Why not plan a shower during a weeknight? It helps to break up the week and you don’t have to worry about missing guests who already have their weekends booked. Weekend morning showers are also a good idea, especially if you’re planning to serve light foods instead of a full meal. Consider serving a light punch, with finger sandwiches, fresh fruit, muffins, and of course, coffee.
Bridal shower themes are becoming increasingly popular as more people look for ways to set their showers apart from previous ones. To decide on your theme, should you want one, start with any interests the bride may have. Does she love golf? Then decorate with golf accessories and make a bridal shower cake that is shaped and decorated like a golf ball or a putting green. You could ask that guests include a small golf accessory as part of their gift. Is the bride an artist? Make your cake in the shape of a palette and decorate it with spashes of colored icing that look like piles of paint. You could request on your invitations that your guests dress the part, wearing berets and painted on moustaches. Remember to make it fun and lighthearted and don’t forget to get in on the action yourself. Getting your guests to act silly gets them to open up and enjoy themselves, even if they don’t know many people at the shower. A Caribbean themed shower is a great hit with guests, as they can dress in their craziest tropical clothing and sip at fruity drinks with umbrellas in them. Make sure to tell them to keep their bikinis at home though!
When it comes to food, think past the usual veggies and onion dip. Go through your recipe books for untried appetizers and give them a shot, preferably testing them before the big day! To make your food look fancy, look for easy garnish ideas like making roses out of tomato peel. Start at one end of the tomato and peel a strip about a half inch wide, working your way down to the bottom of the tomato without breaking, if possible. Then take the strip of peel and roll it up so that it resembles a flower. A few of these strategically placed around your foods will get some attention. You can also decorate your foods, and even your cake, with edible flowers such and pansies and nasturtiums. Your guests can decide if they want to eat them or not!
When all is said and done, the originality of your bridal shower comes down to you and the planning you put into it. Make it extra special for the bride by doing something different. You don’t have to change up everything, but even a few things here and there will make a difference.
